Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, the historic winter tourism destination of Orelle now boasts a new cableway parking facility embodies a modern vision of sustainable mountain mobility. More than just a parking structure, it is a strategic, decarbonised access point connecting visitors directly to the renowned Val Thorens ski area and the iconic Cime Caron, one of Europe’s highest ski destinations.
Before the project, the Orelle site offered only a free, unmanaged outdoor parking area, without access control nor payment systems, a setup that was no longer sufficient. The increasing visitor demand drove the need to streamline access, with an ambitious goal for the cableway managing company STOR: transform the entire visitor experience by adopting a robust, efficient, and scalable parking solution capable of managing dramatic seasonal peaks and the challenges of mountain environments.
Together with construction partner GAGNEPARK, HUB France delivered a fully automated, digitalised parking system consisting of Jupiter, JMS, and Digital Services. Despite demanding alpine weather conditions, the installation was completed in only two weeks.
The new development transformed the site into a fully integrated mobility hub. With 956 parking spaces across multiple areas, EV charging infrastructure, and direct connectivity to the cableway, the facility now enables visitors to park once and access the slopes without congestion or delays.
The solution is a hybrid parking system combining ticketless access with License Plate Recognition (LPR) and a fallback ticketing option, ensuring operational continuity regardless of weather or visibility. Thanks to the centralised management – HUB’s Janus Management System (JMS) – the operator is empowered with full visibility over operations, traffic flows, and transactions, thus unlocking 24/7 performance monitoring and analysis.
HUB’s digital services, including as J4Pay mobile payment, which allows skiers to pay by scanning a QR code directly from the cableway, and the JPass platform for self-service reservations, payments, subscription management, and mobile access, offer visitors a seamless and fully digital parking experience.
The Orelle project demonstrates how advanced parking technology can support broader mobility, and STOR parking facility sets a new benchmark for mobility in alpine destinations.
